Summary of Essay
Much of the details of Mozart’s life were found through his letters. Details that include things about his relationships with the people around him. People like his father, who both acted like a father and manager to him as he was growing up. They were incredibly fond of each other, and Leopold remained the person that Mozart most often wrote to up until Leopold’s death in 1787. With details of Leopold often citing events that happened in Mozart’s childhood. As well as Leopold often writing to his wife about his son and daughter. As for Nannerl, Mozart’s sister, which he didn’t write to quite as often as his father. Those letters are still interesting to analyze, because that is where Mozart’s humor is most prominent because it doesn’t matter what century it is, siblings will always poke fun at each other. In earlier letter’s, Mozart would often make fun of Nannerl for childhood crushes and quote things that happened when they were younger. Mozart’s letters give a very good insight into his life, and how he affected the people around him, for better or worse. With his father’s letter to Mozart, it might seem that he was very controlling and stern towards him. But when taking into consideration that Mozart wasn’t very serious about serious things like keeping jobs, his father had taken it upon himself to help him get one, and was just worried that Mozart wasn’t taking it seriously. When reading Mozart’s letter to Nannerl regarding all the operas he’d been to, one might wonder if Nannerl had ever grown jealous of him.
