Summary of Essay

Despite being a prolific and influential composer of symphonic, concertante, chamber, operatic and choral repertoire, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart was well known for making lewd and lascivious fart and fecal jokes that, just like his musical works, are still discussed today. Infantile jokes pertaining to human excrement, flatulence, and bodily fluids became his go-to. Although talented, Mozart didn’t have formal education (Spaethling 3-5). He and his sister were homeschooled by their father. He never bothered to learn proper sentence structure or to use proper grammar when writing. Moreover, no one ever insisted he learn to write properly. He showed signs of being a prodigy at age four and began traveling the world shortly thereafter. Therefore, his father focused more on his music than on helping him to mature. These letters offer insight into Wolfgang Amedous Mozart's personal and professional life, showcasing his thoughts on various topics such as society, music, and his relationships with friends and family. The collection highlights Mozart’s humor, wit, intelligence, but lack maturity, providing a fascinating glimpse into the mind of a musical genius. Despite his genius, Mozart’s lightheartedness and ability to find joy in life are evident through these entertaining stories.

Mozart's Sense of Humor is a recent project showcasing the playful and witty side of the famous composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. This project aims to shed light on the humor and lightheartedness present in Mozart's music and personality, providing a fresh perspective on the renowned musician.
